Fun #1 I'm Lucky to have you in my life because____________!

Each year I cut out Green shamrocks from construction paper then write on them - ”I am lucky to have you because….” .

Each family member is given 6 shamrocks so that they can personalize one for each member of our family ( we have 7 in our family). They write two reasons they feel lucky to have that family member in their life. During our on St Patrick’s day dinner we read them aloud. As the mom I love watching each of their faces light up as their sibling or parent reminds them of why we are lucky to have them in our lives.

FUN #3  Leprechaun letters
Create a letter written to your children that they wake up to from the Leprechaun or you can print one we found over at Crack of Dawn crafts by clicking here.

FUN #4 - Treasure hunt

Several years ago I picked up small unpainted wooden boxes at my local dollar store, in which I then spray painted gold. These inexpensive boxes have become our annual tradition. We have used them in several ways

1. As table decorations/ favors- fill each box with small gifts ( candy, gift cards, trinkets etc.) then place them at each child's seat, to be opened during the St. Patrick's day meal.

2. Treasure hunt - Hide the boxes and create a fun treasure hunt.

3. The Leprechaun trick - On St. Patrick's night we fill the boxes with goodies then place them in our sleeping Children's rooms, when they awake in the morning they find their boxes along with a note from the Leprechaun. The note instructs them to leave the boxes the following night filled with chocolate for the Leprechaun ( ME), or he might play a few tricks on them.

Fun #5 Bake a Batch of Leprechaun Magic Cupcakes.

The night before St. Patrick's day bake a batch of whit un-frosted cupcakes with your children then set them out for the Little Leprechauns.  When morning arrives your children can awake to Rainbow cupcakes that the little Leprechauns have created from their white cupcakes.  Click here to see our video on how to create this fun for your family.  Click here for complete Rainbow Cupcake recipe from Family fun.

Fun #6 Leprechauns LOVE Smelly feet
Fill your Children's shoes with green and gold items ( green glow sticks, green gum. Green car, headbands, slinky etc. and gold coins). What a surprise they will find in the morning.

Fun #7 You've been stamped by the Leprechaun
Stamp a Shamrock on your Child’s Hand while they are asleep or even stick some Shamrock Stickers on them for a fun surprise when they wake up.

Fun #8 Leprechaun Trail
Leave a trail of Green Shamrock Stickers all over the house on Door Knobs, Bathroom Mirror, beds, breakfast dishes, Floor etc. place a treat at the end like it is the pot of gold.

Fun #9 Toilet Goes Green
Add some Green Food Coloring to the Toilet water – What a fun surprise they will find on  their  first trip to the bathroom in the morning.

Fun #10 Hit By The Leprechaun's
Surprise your kids in the AM with a crazy Leprechaun trick by turning everything upside down in their rooms and in the house. Put things in odd places, Upside down, turn around pictures maybe even rearrange the furniture a bit. How could they do this to your home?

Catching A Leprechaun Creates Family Fun - St. Patrick's Day

Are your kids wondering how they can possibly catch that little Leprechaun this year?  Why not have a family night and  build a fun Leprechaun trap this weekend.

Allow your kids imagination to soar with one of these fun ideas:

Recycle to Create Trap

Over the next couple of days save every recyclable item from boxes to bottles. Once you have a nice selection allow your kids to begin building and creating their own Leprechaun trap using the recyclable items.

LEPRECHAUN HAT PIT TRAP
from: Family Fun

Leprechauns have big egos, so a giant version of their own hat is irresistible to them. Once they step on the false top, you'll have caught a 10-gallon prize.
So that the top doesn't give way too soon, use a lightweight bait, such as a crumpled piece of gold foil.
Our hat, a recycled oatmeal container, is wrapped with green felt secured with double-sided tape. To make the trap, we cut a hole in the lid (see image), then cunningly concealed it with a circle of green felt that will give way when the leprechaun steps on it.
Leprechauns love to break rules. Warning signs are sure to lure them in.
Natural materials make these woodland creatures feel at home. Our ladder is made from twigs held together with wood glue.

RAINBOW CAGE DROP

from: Family Fun

No self-respecting leprechaun can resist a giant rainbow. As he gets close and spies the gold bait, his curiosity will get the best of him. When he pinches the pot, down comes the cage!
A bent wire hanger (1) hidden by a piece of poster board (2) forms the support for the suspended cage. We bent the hook of the hanger into a loop to hold the line.
We tied fishing line to the top of a plastic berry basket, then threaded the line through the wire loop and back down through the basket. We pulled the line taut and secured it under the bait.
To conceal the cage, we tucked fiberfill into the weave of the basket, giving it the look of a fluffy cloud.
The weight of the bait holds down the fishing line. Ours is a mini flowerpot painted black and filled with gold-painted rocks. Glitter glue adds extra sparkle.
Grass like fabric blankets the base, evoking the Emerald Isle.
We added a path made of glitter craft foam to point the way to the bait. Leprechauns are drawn to flashy objects.

TRICKY TRAPDOOR

from: Family Fun

This trap draws on time-honored technology: a swinging door cut into the top of the box gives way when the leprechaun tries to make off with the bait.

You can never have too many rainbows on your trap. This one is made from pipe cleaners.
For bait, try chocolate coins, shiny jewels, or even a worn-out doll shoe! (Leprechauns are cobblers by trade.) We glued the coins in a pile to keep them secure when the trap is sprung.
Our trapdoor is a flap held up by a tab of card stock (taped in place after the box is decorated).
This climbing wall is sure to entice the wee adventurers.   Ours consists of small rocks affixed with tacky glue to the sponge-painted box.
We covered our box with tissue paper (green, of course) attached with  glue stick.
Capture the look of the Irish countryside with stones and bits of moss.
