Coffee Filter Flowers and Butterflies: Kids Apply

I love afternoons like these! You know, where you gather around the table with your kiddos creating wonderful projects! This is one of my favorites because the flowers always turn out different and we have such fun laughing together. We like to give bouquets of these fun flowers to grandma for Mother's Day or on May Day.

You will need

and this

and some of these too (aren't they cute)

First use markers (might I suggest the washable kind) and color your coffee filters. Anything goes!

Really, ANYTHING...

Then pinch them together in the center like this

and wrap a pipe cleaner pretty tightly around it, like this

Spread your little flower out and give it a little spray. Make sure your bottle is set to mist and gently spray your flower until it is damp enough for the colors to do their thing.

Now let them dry. They don't take too long. I usually stand them in a vase, jar or even a tall glass so they aren't laying down.

Aren't they fun?
If you would like, you can also make butterflies like this

Pinch them in the middle like this

Wrap half of a pipe cleaner around the center

and twist to make the attennae

Now give them a little squirt, let them dry, and there you have it! Wouldn't they be cute glued to clothespins and magnets?

Grab your kiddos and have some fun!

A Quilt For Taylor

Let me introduce you to one of my favorite arts... quilitng. I have to be careful, because when I get into a guitling groove, I have the urge to abandon everything else and just settle down into my own little world of fabric and thread. My love for quilting is also probably one of my biggest kept secrets, because few people seem to know I quilt. Probably because I am a little shy about sharing them. I also love dragonflies - almost as much as my an amazing niece, Taylor, who I made this quilt for! She lives far away and I don't get to see her nearly enough, so I made this one for her hoping that she would know how much she is loved and how often she is thought of! I chose these fabrics for their fresh colors and patterns. I had to have the dragonfly material and adore that dragonflies are even featured in the stitching. Can you see one?

I doubled a pattern called Take Three by The Teacher's Pet. My kiddos helped laying the blocks out and so some of the pieces aren't as randonmly placed as usual, but they love the fact that they were able to help. Which makes it totally worth it, afterall a quilt is supposed to be made with heart. This little dragonfly quilt certainly was! And finally, here is a picture of the rest of the quilt -

It was difficult to photograph, but you get the idea and I think she liked it, which is what really counts. Hopefully I will find better ways to photograph large items, because I have more to share...

Happy Belated Easter!!!!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! We had an amazing time in St. George! I must apologize for dropping off of the blogging world for a few days. My family was traveling for the holidays, and I was foolishly expecting to have access to the internet.... well, the bunny didn't deliver on that wish! However, we did have a fabulous Easter, and I hope you all did too! I missed all of my blogging buddies!

While I was gone, my photobucket account decided that I was over my alloted band width, and I lost some photos. You can imagine the panic in my heart when I discovered my blog was in such bad shape. Thank goodness that is over and Crazy Daisy is pretty again! Thanks for sticking with me! Sorry about that!

Also, we need to finish up voting for the first Tuesday Tastes Party! Please check out this link, browse the recipes that are linked up AND LEAVE A COMMENT WITH YOUR VOTE! Just leave the number of your favorite recipe (make sure to follow the above link)! You have until 11:30 PM (Mountain Standard Time) Wednesday, April 7, 2010 to cast your vote! I cannot wait to see who wins!
